Cedars-Sinai Data-Sharing Suit Bounced Back to State Court

A proposed class action alleging that Cedars-Sinai Health System disclosed patients’ private information to Meta Platforms Inc., Google LLC, and Microsoft Corp. without their consent will be heard in state court, a federal judge ruled.

Cedars-Sinai wasn’t entitled to remove the case to federal court because it wasn’t “acting under a federal officer” in developing the patient portal at issue in the alleged data sharing, Judge Dale S. Fischer of the US District Court for the Central District of California said Monday.

Fischer remanded the case to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
