Cash App Parent Company, Class Get First Approval for Settlement

A district court preliminarily signed off on a $12.5 million settlement between Block Inc., the parent company of mobile payment service Cash App, and a class of consumers suing over the company’s referral text messages.

Judge Marsha J. Pechman said Tuesday the proposed agreement between Block and a class of more than one million Washington consumers satisfies the prerequisites under Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 23(a) and 23(b)(3). The proposed settlement would also provide up to a $10,000 service award for lead plaintiff Kimberly Bottoms in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington.
