Car Dealer, Ex-Worker Settle Retaliation Claims Over Wife’s Race

A Texas auto dealership settled with a White worker who claimed he lost his job after speaking up about race bias—including comments about his wife’s mixed-race background—ending their court dispute.

Judge David C. Godbey of the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas dismissed Russ Kirby’s lawsuit May 16, one week after the parties filed a joint motion requesting that the case be dropped. The court docket confirms that the case was settled after Kirby and Sewell Corp. engaged in alternative dispute resolution, but the settlement terms haven’t been disclosed.
