California’s Youth Social Media Law Halted Amid Court’s Appeal

A three-judge appeals court panel temporarily halted a California law limiting minors’ access to “addictive algorithms” on social media.

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit granted the temporary injunction, pointing to case law finding that the standard for evaluating such a ban pending appeal is similar to standards lower courts adopt when weighing a preliminary injunction. The decision bars California from enforcing the law while the appeal is pending, the court said in its two-page order.
