California’s Pepper Projectile Ban Challenged by Arms Seller

California’s ban on selling and possessing tear gas weapons was challenged in a Wednesday lawsuit by a company seeking to sell pepperball guns to Golden State residents.

Byrna Technologies Inc.'s “pepper projectile launchers” are Second Amendment-protected arms, the company said in a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of California.

Californians can use small cans of pepper spray, but not weapons that shoot tear gas or pepperball projectiles, like those sold by Byrna. California and New York are the only two states that prohibit residents from owning the launchers, the complaint said, estimating that ...
