California’s Largest Union Makes Deal to Delay Newsom’s RTO (2)

California’s largest union won’t be adhering to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s return-to-office executive order after reaching a tentative agreement with the state to delay the mandate until 2026.

The tentative deal means that “nearly all” of the state workers under the four-day in-office mandate are now exempt from it until July 1, 2026, California’s Department of Human Resources said Monday. Newsom’s March executive order—which was anticipated to require nearly 100,000 state employees to return to the office at least four days per week—is slated to begin July 1.
