The Chino Valley Unified School District and a group of parents are suing California over the right of parents of transgender students to be notified that their child’s school is participating in the child’s social transition.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on July 15 signed Assembly Bill 1955, which will bar schools from adopting rules that would allow them to disclose information about a student’s gender identity or expression without their consent. The law is set to go into effect Jan. 1, 2025.
