California State Courts Given Model Policy for Generative AI Use

Thirty-eight California state courts either already use or plan to use generative artificial intelligence, California Judicial Council members were told Friday.

These courts should ensure confidential and non-public information aren’t submitted to public generative AI systems, and users should review content created by AI to ensure it’s accurate, new model guidelines say. Users should also ensure generative AI isn’t being used to discriminate or create biased content, and users should disclose if generative AI was used for a “substantial” portion of a product shown to the public, the guidelines say.
