California Satirical Newspaper Sues to Block County Subpoena

A California satirical newspaper sued the San Benito County board of supervisors to block the county’s attempt to reveal the identities of the newspaper’s authors.

Anonymous members of the Benito Beet Beat, which posts satirical local news on Facebook, said the board unlawfully issued a subpoena to Meta Platforms Inc. seeking unmask the news writers.

The county located in central California is retaliating against the newspaper over a political cartoon criticizing the board of supervisor’s cuts to security at behavioral health clinics, lawsuit said, which was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
