California Kids Online Protection Law Constitutional, State Says

California’s law requiring social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to reduce privacy threats and increase safety for children “operates well within constitutional parameters,” attorneys for the state said in a court filing opposing a bid to block the measure.

California’s first-in-the-nation law unanimously passed last year holds social media companies liable for addicting children to their platforms. Tech companies heavily lobbied against the law, and the trade group NetChoice LLC in December filed suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
