California Chief Justice Denounces Immigration Arrests at Court

California Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero said she’s “deeply concerned” about reports of federal immigration enforcement across state courthouses in a Thursday statement.

“Making courthouses a focus of immigration enforcement hinders, rather than helps, the administration of justice by deterring witnesses and victims from coming forward and discouraging individuals from asserting their rights,” Guerrero said.

A California courts spokesperson said in an email to Bloomberg Law the court has received reports of immigration enforcement at courthouses in ten California counties since President Donald Trump’s inauguration: Butte, San Bernardino, Shasta, Glenn, Orange, Stanislaus, Kern, Los Angeles, Madera, and Tehama.
