California AG Challenges Discovery Ask in Meta Social Media Suit

The Ninth Circuit used oral arguments Tuesday to probe whether California’s attorney general has the authority to produce documents from other agencies in the sprawling social media addiction lawsuit against Meta Platforms Inc.

The battle over Meta’s discovery requests comes as dozens of state AGs allege the Facebook and Instagram owner violates child privacy laws and has driven a teen mental health crisis.

A district court threatened to sanction California’s Attorney General’s Office for failing to produce documents in the case, but the the office says it lacks authority to do so.
