A government ban on firearms accessories known as bump stocks is invalid, the full Fifth Circuit said Friday in a ruling that conflicts with decisions of other federal appeals courts.
The Trump administration put the ban in place after the October 2017 Las Vegas concert massacre, in which a gunman used semi-automatic rifles with bump stocks to kill 58 people. Bump stocks harness a gun’s recoil energy to rapidly bump the shooter’s stationary finger against the trigger.
