Brown University Escapes Graduate Student’s Title IX Lawsuit

Brown University defeated a Title IX lawsuit from a graduate student alleging the school failed to adequately respond to her allegations that another student sexually assaulted her.

Brown was entitled to summary judgment on the student’s claims under Title IX and Rhode Island laws concerning civil rights and intentional infliction of emotional distress, Judge John J. McConnell Jr. ruled March 14.

McConnell said the student, who was identified as Jane Doe, failed to allege disputed issues of material fact supporting her claims, and dismissed her suit from the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
