Telehealth services provider Brightline Inc. negligently failed to protect the personal information of nearly 28,000 patients in connection with a January data breach by a Russian-linked ransomware group, a new proposed federal class action said.
Terrance Rosa and Ryan Watson alleged that Brightline inadequately maintained its network, platform, and software, rendering its system easy prey for cybercriminals.
The plaintiffs now suffer from an increased and imminent risk of fraud and identity theft and will likely incur lost time and additional costs for the purchase of credit-monitoring and other protective services, they said.
