Booking.com Wins Reversal of Verdict for Ryanair Scraping Case

Booking.com convinced a federal court to overturn a jury verdict holding it liable to Ryanair DAC for violating a federal computer fraud law.

Ryanair said that Booking.com violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act by using online travel agents to scrape its computer programs. Scraping uses automated systems to enter into and use a website to search and book flights sold to customers. Ryanair said that it was damaged by Booking.com’s scraping, which interrupted service to its website and data and caused the airline to spend funds to prevent unauthorized activity.
