Boilermakers Ex-President Loses Appeal Bid to Overturn Removal

The embattled former president of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers couldn’t convince a federal appeals panel Thursday to reverse his ousting or declare that his union leadership violated its constitution.

The union executive council’s actions that led to the removal of Newton B. Jones and his subsequent disciplinary hearings were all within the bounds of the union’s constitution, the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled in an opinion. The three-judge panel unanimously affirmed the lower court’s granting of summary judgment in favor of the executive council members.
