BofA Suit Advances Over Covid Unemployment-Benefits Debit Cards

Bank of America NA must face a proposed class action alleging it engaged in abusive practices related to a prepaid card program that distributed unemployment benefits for the state of New Jersey during the Covid-19 pandemic, a federal court ruled.

Judge Brian R. Martinotti of the US District Court for the District of New Jersey said June 28 plaintiff Cassandra V. Beaman’s claims that she adequately notified BofA of fraud, triggering its obligations under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, were “plausible on its face.”
