Bodum Fails to Defeat Suit Over Woman’s Burns From French Press

Bodum USA Inc. will go to trial over claims from a consumer who alleges the company’s French Press burned her while making coffee.

The company isn’t entitled to summary judgment because the parties’ conflicting expert witness testimonies must be addressed by a jury, Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said in a Thursday order.

Alicia Ann Mehle alleged that while she was pushing the plunger down in her Bodum Java French Press, the glass carafe cracked, spilling hot coffee on her that caused first and second degree burns.
