Blue Shield of California Sued Over Data Breach of Contractor

Blue Shield of California failed to take action to protect the personal information of policy holders that was disclosed in a data breach that one of its contractors suffered, a proposed federal class action said.

Named plaintiff Faalon Andrews alleged that the health insurer didn’t implement reasonable and adequate measures to protect sensitive data, or comply with the data-security requirements of the Federal Trade Commission Act or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Information exposed in the April 2024 breach included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, insurance-policy information, and claims information, according to the complaint filed Wednesday ...
