Blue Bottle Coffee Loses Trademark Suit Over ‘Blue Brew’ Name

Blue Bottle Coffee LLC failed to persuade a federal court on Tuesday that competing coffee products labeled “Blue Brew” infringe on the brand’s trademarks.

Judge Charles R. Breyer of US District Court for the Northern District of California granted summary judgment to Southern Technologies—which sells “Blue Brew"-branded coffee products. Hui Chuan Liao, who owns the Blue Brew mark and launched the Blue Brew coffee product line, was also granted summary judgment.
