Biomet Stuck With $21 Million Verdict to Hip Implant Patient

Biomet Inc. failed to shake a $21 million compensatory verdict in a hip prosthesis case, as a Missouri federal judge said the amount wasn’t excessive and the jury properly found the all-metal implant was negligently designed and caused a woman’s harm.

Nor did one juror’s positive Covid-19 test warrant a new trial, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri said Monday.

Mary Bayes had both her hips replaced with Biomet’s M2a-Magnum hip implants in 2008.
