Beech-Nut Says Baby Food Lawsuit ‘Needlessly Distressed’ Parents

Beech-Nut Nutrition Co. urged a federal court in New York to dismiss a proposed class suit over trace amounts of heavy metals in baby foods, saying the allegations are “irresponsible,” “legally deficient,” and “needlessly distressed millions of parents trying to provide their children with healthy, nutritious foods.”

Laurie Thomas’s suit in the US District Court for the Northern District of New York is one of more than 100 such suits by parents who allege baby food makers touted their products as healthful despite the undisclosed presence of arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury.
