Bayer Dodges Bias Suit Over Supervisor’s Maternity Leave Remark

A former Bayer Healthcare LLC employee didn’t put forth enough evidence showing she was retaliated against for complaining about her supervisor’s treatment of a colleague who was going on maternity leave, a federal judge in New Jersey ruled.

Irene Laurora’s supervisor, John O’Mullane, commented during a meeting that another employee, Margaret Gryszkiewicz, should not lead a team project because of her “impending family event.”

Laurora later emailed O’Mullane, saying she felt the remark was “inappropriate and disrespectful.” She also told O’Mullane that she’d talked to Gryszkiewicz after the meeting and decided she should continue to spearhead the project.
