BASF, Olin Corp. to Pay $13 Million for Alabama DDT Cleanup (1)

Chemical companies Olin Corp. and BASF Corp. will pay more than $13 million to clean up an Alabama Superfund site contaminated with mercury and DDT, according to a proposed consent decree filed in federal district court.

Chemical production operations on part of the Olin McIntosh Superfund site, located in Washington County, Ala., continue to release contaminants into the environment, the Environmental Protection Agency claimed in its complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama Thursday.
