Barstool Sports Founder Sues Insider Inc. Over Rape Claims

Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy hit Insider Inc. with a defamation suit alleging the news organization published false allegations that he sexually assaulted women.

Portnoy alleges that Insider “published, as fact,” that he “‘violently’ raped and sexually assaulted three unnamed females,” which he says is “an outright fabrication.”

The complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts alleges that Insider ran the “hit pieces” on Nov. 4, 2021 and Jan. 18, 2022 on its businessinsider.com website in order to “drive reader traffic.”
