Bard Ordered to Pay $500,000 in Third Hernia Mesh Test Trial

C.R. Bard Inc. and Davol Inc. were ordered by a federal jury to pay $500,000 to a Maine man who linked flawed hernia mesh to pain and other complications.

The Wednesday verdict came in the third test trial in multidistrict litigation overseen by Judge Edmund A. Sargus Jr. of the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. More than 20,000 cases are pending against the two Becton Dickinson and Co. units by plaintiffs who allege the plastic in the mesh degrades in the body.
