Babylon Bee Sues Over California Anti-Deepfake Election Laws

Conservative satire outlet Babylon Bee and a blogging lawyer sued California officials over new state laws that they say threaten their ability to post political commentary.

The laws—part of a suite of legislation meant to blunt the impact of AI “deepfakes” on elections—violate their First Amendment rights, the outlet and the lawyer argue.

The suit follows another brought by a YouTube parody creator in California that similarly targeted the laws, which require social media platforms to take down materially deceptive election content and ban the distribution of AI-generated election content made with malicious intent.
