Avo, a same-day grocery delivery service, is accused of violating federal and state law by abruptly laying off nearly 150 employees in New York City without providing adequate notice, according to a new proposed class action filed in a federal court in Brooklyn.
Avo Shopping Co. Inc. notified 146 employees at its Long Island City, N.Y., location on April 22 that their positions would be terminated on May 6, even though it could’ve reasonably anticipated the layoffs much sooner and provided advance notice, according to the complaint.
