Imprisoned celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti is asking the US Supreme Court to review a Second Circuit opinion affirming his 2022 conviction for identity theft.
A jury found Avenatti guilty in 2022 of wire fraud and identity theft for misappropriating $297,500 in payments to Stephanie Clifford, more widely known as Stormy Daniels, from the publisher of her planned memoir.
He was sentenced to a total of four years’ imprisonment, comprising 24 months for wire fraud, with a consecutive 24-month term mandated by the aggravated identity theft statute.
