A San Francisco class action attorney representing comedian Sarah Silverman, Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Michael Chabon, and other authors in a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI Inc. was denied his motion to serve at the plaintiffs’ interim lead counsel.
The suit alleges OpenAI trained the AI model behind its flagship ChatGPT chatbot by copying hundreds of thousands of books without the authors’ permission.
Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín of the US District Court for the Northern District of California ruled that the Joseph Saveri Law Firm LLP‘s attempt serve as interim lead counsel representing about a dozen authors was premature.
