Attorney-Bankruptcy Trustee Sues Over Public Service Loans (1)

An attorney and bankruptcy trustee says the Education Department is illegally refusing to forgive his student loan debt despite having completed the necessary steps for relief as a public servant, a new lawsuit Thursday alleged.

Rolando Ramos-Cardona says the US Department of Education falsely labeled his employment as a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee as for-profit, disqualifying him for relief under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Ramos-Cardona argued in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania that Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee operations are public service organizations that are not-for-profit.
