Atrium Health Hit With Several Lawsuits Over April Data Breach

North Carolina-based Atrium Health is facing at least seven proposed class actions alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of more than 32,000 patients and employees that was exposed in an April data breach.

The plaintiffs alleged the health care system breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to implement reasonable and adequate measures to protect sensitive data, properly monitor its data systems, and provide timely and adequate notice of the incident.
