AT&T Agrees to Pay $177 Million to Settle 2024 Data Breach Suits

AT&T Inc. would pay $177 million to settle proposed class actions alleging it failed to protect the personal information of more than 73 million current and former customers in two separate data breaches.

The settlement would create a $149 million fund for the benefit of customers whose information was exposed in a 2019 data breach, and a $28 million fund for customers whose data was exposed in an April 2024 breach, according to the plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary approval filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
