AstraZeneca Beats Ex-Sales Manager’s Age Bias, Retaliation Suit

AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP defeated an ex-sales manager’s age bias and retaliation suit after terminating her for allegedly violating company policy by seeking drug samples for personal use, among other claims.

AstraZeneca provided sufficient evidence showing its ex-district sales manager, Gail Downing, was terminated based on the company’s good faith belief she violated its company policy, said Chief District Judge William L. Campbell Jr. of the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Campbell granted the pharmaceutical company summary judgment on Downing’s discrimination claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the state’s human rights law.
