Arizona is suing Tucson Electric Power Co. to recover costs incurred in responding to releases of hazardous substances at the Broadway Pantano Landfill located in east-central Tucson, Ariz.
TEPC is the successor in interest to Tucson Gas & Electric Co., which owned the landfill when hazardous substances were disposed there between 1953 and 1972, according to the complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Arizona.
The hazardous substances allegedly released include volatile organic compounds and heavy metals that have contaminated soil and groundwater.
