Archdiocese Fails to Shed Insurance Suit Over Sex Abuse Claims

Chubb Ltd.‘s lawsuit arguing it shouldn’t have to pay the Archdiocese of New York for liabilities incurred in thousands of sex abuse lawsuits was revived by a New York appellate court on Tuesday.

Chubb has adequately established a factual basis for not covering the liabilities, should it come to light that the archdiocese knew about abuse perpetrated by its employees, the New York Supreme Court First Appellate Department said in its unanimous opinion.
