Apple Defeats Lawsuit Claiming Loud Airpod Noise Damaged Eardrum

Apple Inc. escaped a lawsuit alleging its Airpods Pro product destroyed the right eardrum of a child who was wearing the wireless earbuds when a loud Amber Alert notification went off.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley ruled Monday that the plaintiff, who goes by the initials B.G., lacked evidence that the 113.5 decibel Amber Alert could have caused any kind of permanent hearing damage.

“Exposure to sounds in the range of 120 decibels—more than double the sound pressure B.G. experienced—is common in everyday life,” Corley wrote for the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
