Apple Beats Class Suit Over iTunes Video Customer Info Retention

Users of Apple Inc.‘s iTunes video streaming service can’t proceed with a proposed class action alleging that the company unlawfully retained their personal information, including names, addresses, credit card information, and rental history.

New York and Minnesota laws prohibit video providers from disclosing and retaining consumers’ personal information. But while they expressly allow users to sue for wrongful disclosure, they don’t create private causes of action for wrongful retention, the the US District Court for the Northern District of California said.
