Apple $50 Million MacBook Keyboard Settlement Gets Final Nod

Apple Inc. and computer purchasers got a judge’s final approval Thursday for a $50 million class settlement over MacBook “butterfly” keyboards.

Consumers alleged a physical defect in the laptop keyboards allows dust to get in, making some keys inoperable. The nationwide deal covers owners of about 15 million computers.

• The settlement provides automatic payments of at least $300 for individuals who had multiple keyboard repairs to certain MacBooks, up to $125 for those who were unsatisfied with a single repair, and repairs through the first four years after purchase
