Anthem, Elevance Accused of Sharing Website Users’ Health Info

Anthem Insurance Cos. and Elevance Health Inc. were hit with a proposed class action alleging the insurance companies violated the Federal Wiretap Act and state law by embedding tracking technologies on their website and patient portals that intercepted and transmitted users’ private health information to third-party vendors without consent.

The trackers load immediately both on the companies’ public-facing web pages and within purportedly secure patient portals, allowing the covert tracking, intercepting, and recording of users’ communications, including their keystrokes, the URLs of individual pages visited, mouse movements, clicks, and/or other electronic communications in real time, according to the complaint filed ...
