Anheuser-Busch Must Face Suit Dissing Margaritas, Mojos as Beer

Anheuser-Busch LLC must keep defending a proposed class suit alleging it deceptively markets margarita, mojito, rosé, and sangria-named beverages that are really nothing more than flavored beer, a Missouri federal court said.

Megan Browning and Adam Kesselring say “Sparkling Margarita” drinks contain no tequila, “Mojito” drinks are made without rum, and “Sangria” and “Rosé” drinks lack wine.

The plaintiffs adequately allege the company’s portrayal would likely mislead a reasonable consumer into thinking the drinks have the alcohol associated with their names when in fact, they don’t, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri said Thursday.
