AmeriCorps Faces Tough Questions Over Trump Anti-DEI Orders

AmeriCorps was pressed by a federal judge Friday to defend its directive conditioning grants on compliance with President Donald Trump’s anti-DEI executive orders.

Judge Edward M. Chen asked during a preliminary injunction hearing how the Trump administration could square the anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion measures with some of the statutory language in the National and Community Service Act of 1990, which established AmeriCorps. He pointed to a section instructing the agency to renew the ethic of civic responsibility throughout the “varied and diverse” communities throughout the US.
