Amazon Worker Pay Question Referred to Illinois Supreme Court

Seventh Circuit judges considering a wage claim from Amazon warehouse employees referred a legal question to the Illinois Supreme Court, saying that is the proper place to decide whether a state statute allows for more expansive wage protections.

An answer from the state court would determine whether the employees’ federal claims can survive, Judge Nancy Maldonado wrote in Tuesday’s order.

Lisa Johnson and Gale Miller Anderson sued Amazon, claiming they should have been paid for the time they spent before their shifts undergoing mandatory Covid-19 screenings.
