Amazon Sued Over Patents for Alexa Voice Recognition Tech (1)

Amazon.com Inc. was accused of patent infringement over alleged unauthorized use of natural speech processing technology in products featuring its virtual assistant, Alexa.

Dialect LLC brought its complaint in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, alleging seven counts of patent infringement for technologies invented by VoiceBox Technologies, a software developer that specializes in natural language understanding. Dialect is the owner and assignee of VoiceBox’s patents, according to the complaint.

Systems for recognizing speech, filtering noise, receiving multi-modal inputs, and transcribing communications are among the allegedly infringed-upon patents, the Monday filing said. According to Dialect, Amazon used ...
