Amazon Fails to Stop Reinstated Teen Suicide Substance Claims

The highest state court in Washington on Thursday said the families of teens who died by suicide after purchasing a toxic substance on Amazon.com Inc.'s platform could bring negligence claims against the e-commerce juggernaut.

The act of suicide wasn’t a superseding cause that precluded claims under Washington’s Product Liability Act and Amazon had a legal duty to exercise reasonable care when selling sodium nitrite, the toxic substance, the Washington Supreme Court said in an en banc opinion.
