Altered Oil, Gas Lessors Class Certified in Contract Breach Suit

A group of oil and gas lessors were granted class certification in their lawsuit alleging a drill operator shortchanged them on royalty payments for years.

Four lessors satisfied the requirements under Federal Rule of Procedure 23 to proceed as a class against Range Resources-Appalachia LLC, Judge Patricia L. Dodge ruled Monday in a memorandum opinion. They allege in the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania that Range breached their contracts by underpaying them royalties on natural gas and natural gas liquid products produced from the wells.
