Ally Bank, Non-US Citizens Settle Banking Services Denial Class

Ally Bank won court approval to settle claims accusing it of violating federal law by denying full access to banking services to applicants who aren’t US citizens or legal permanent residents.

Mariela Aguilar Velazquez sued Ally in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California, after she was allegedly informed that her immigration status made her ineligible to open a checking and savings account. Aguilar is a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient, authorized to work in the US, and has a Social Security number.
