All-Clad Cookware Deal Gives Lawyers Too Much, Objector Says (1)

A class settlement resolving allegations that All-Clad Metalcrafters LLC and Groupe SEB USA Inc. deceptively touted high-end cookware as dishwasher safe disproportionately benefits the plaintiffs’ lawyers, an objector urging rejection of the deal told a US judge.

This deal pays claims that are made, with unclaimed funds reverting to the defendants. Federal rules governing class actions require such settlements to be evaluated according to what the class actually receives. Consequently, the total value-based fee request is too high, attorney-objector John Michael Andren said Thursday in a filing with the the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
