Richard Alexander Murdaugh, the former Hampton, S.C., lawyer serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and youngest son, has pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges.
Murdaugh, who is accused of insurance fraud and of stealing settlement money from at least six of his former clients, entered the plea on Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of South Carolina.
He will remain at McCormick Correctional Institution, a maximum security facility, after waiving his right to remain in federal custody for the duration of the criminal case.
